Standard-Thomson Receives Training Grant

Standard Thomson Corporation was recently awarded a grant of $119,250 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Employment and Training to train all 268 employees in "Lean Manufacturing" and improve its competitive position.  Jane C. Edmonds, Department of Labor and Workforce Development Director, and Jack King, Division of Employment and Training Director presented the award, to Mark Migliozzi,  Plant Manager of Standard Thomson in Waltham, MA.   "Every employee will go through this training and it's exciting"  said Migliozzi.  "We're reinventing the company and its manufacturing process.  The money will be used to train all of our employees in Lean manufacturing techniques starting with the basic introduction of Lean principles known as Lean 101 and then move into the areas of team building, value stream mapping, total productive maintenance, as well as Kaizen events for workplace organization, cell design, standardized work, set-up reduction, and Kanban."
